If you remember when UEFI pc's were introduced there was an outcry about microsoft blocking alternative operating systems on the secure boot.  That was a over reaction as well by the media.

Blocking linux would only harm microsoft, linux is still no credible threat to microsoft, they continue to see old versions of their own software as threat's tho.  Obviously things like ipad's will draw casual users away from pc's but thats inevitable for those types of users.
