Whats happening to broadband speeds in Lowestoft :o(
« on: March 17, 2008, 05:13:07 PM »

Hi
I reported a week or two ago that my boyfriends sync rate had dropped to 2272 after previously being very steady connection of 3.5mb for the last year.
His ISP is BT

I live a few miles away from him and I too have now dropped from a sync speed of approx 5500 to 2272. I have tried using DMT tool to resync my router and even changed the advanced settings to change the noise margin which is a wopping 24.1 but it will not sync any higher :o(
My ISP is AOL

what on earth can be going on at the exchange, i have checked on the plusnet site and it says the exchange is ok.

any suggestions greatly appreciated

Lisa

It rather looks as though you've both been transferred to a capped 2meg service. Can you copy your router stats here please?

Yes, it's as I suspected. You've both been capped at 2 Mbps. If your previous, higher speed, connection was reasonably stable, then I think you have a case for complaining bitterly to your ISP about this unnecessary forced reduction in your speed. I would demand to be returned to the regular Max service.

You have been put on a 2mb fixed speed service. No longer on rate adaptive. Typical reason for this would have been severe drop of sync issues inked with poor snr or attenuation of >59db

Your stats look good, line attenuation ok (so your definately not in Oulton Broad near the transport Museum) SNR is good (as your on a fixed speed the higher the snr the better, teens is average, 20's are good) and the errors look clean.

As your a few miles away from your boyfriend I would suspect this is coincidence, best check with your isp why a change in the type of service.

Lowestoft hasn't been my patch for a long time so I'm unaware of any local issues

The upstream and downstream line rates exactly match those for a fixed 2 Mbps connection. If you were still on ADSL Max your upstream connection speed would be 448 kbps.
