I saw this router on Ebay and wondering whether to place a bid.
What I need is a VDSL combined router - Modem.

I took a look at the list in this forum but could not see it listed ?

Sorry Millie, I do not know whether that modem/router would be a good choice for a UK VDSL2 based service.  :-\

Hi Millie

I’ve just had a quick look and it seems that unit has a Lantiq chipset which in my opinion is OK if you are on an ECI cabinet.  If you’re on a Huawei cabinet then I would say you are better off with a Broadcom based modem.

In the simplest of terms, the chipset is the type of the "electronic gubbins" that makes the device work.  ;)

The are differing opinions as to whether having matching chipsets within the cabinet and within the modem/router are significant. In your case, the Huawei cabinet's electronics has a Broadcom chipset but, as pooclah mentioned, the modem/router has a Lantiq chipset. If the performance is acceptable and everything appears to be O.K., then the mismatched chipsets can be ignored.  :)

The chipset is the set of electronic "chips", miniature electronic circuits made from small pieces of silicon, chips of silicon.

It usually refers to the choice of types of circuits. So a Broadcom chipset is a set of chip types made by or designed by that manufacturer.
