Target SNRM offset tweak in DSLstats
« on: November 11, 2015, 04:48:02 PM »

I am tempted to try this tweak in DSLStats v5.6 just to see if I can get back some of my missing U/L speed.
(was discussed in another thread and I have seen with my own eyes it restore itself from 12Mbps back to 17Mbps for a day when something weird happened and it resynced itself at lower SNRMs but higher rates).

If I understand correctly, the slider control is relative so if I choose -1.0 dB then Apply that change, the modem will reconnect and attempt to maintain a margin of 5 in future.

I have two questions:-
1) When should I do this? My max attainable speeds (for D/L at least) have dropped below current connection speed temporarily - happens around this time of day. Should I wait until they are about the same again (likely early tomorrow morning)?
2) When I do it should I also do the wait-2-times-15-minute-blocks before reconnecting so as DLM doesn't get involved? (If so would that mean pulling the broadband cable from the modem; then applying the tweak; then waiting 30 mins before putting the broadband cable back - or would the modem need powering down too?)

It's not possible on VDSL2 unfortunately. The option is disabled in the DSLAM.

Well that sorts that!  :)

Actually, might not need it - for some unknown reason, my SNRs have just shot up - 7.2 for D/L but a massive 10.6 for U/L with 21450 Max achievable!
I might disconnect for half an hour just to try to lock that in!

I reset the connection and waited 30 minutes and got exactly the same connection I had before.  >:(
Must have been a blip I guess.

It was probably caused by one of your neighbours dropping their connection for a while, resulting in a drop in crosstalk. By the time your 30 minutes was up they would have reconnected.

I see. Forgive my ignorance but does the crosstalk occur in the cabinet or the pole thingy?

It occurs mainly in the copper cable where several pairs are bunched together.
