HG612 modem stats on ARM?
« on: November 10, 2015, 11:56:37 AM »

I don't have a PC that is left on all the time and I don't have a RPi so I'm wondering about options for continual stats monitoring.

What I do have is a QNAP NAS box that is on all the time. This has a Marvell 6282 1.6GHz (ARM) CPU and can have packages installed.

Is there likely to be any mileage in investigating this possibility?

If it's a TS-419P+ you may be able to install a Linux distribution on it and use the Raspberry Pi version of DSLStats but I would suggest it's easier just to buy a Raspberry Pi.

It's a TS-212-E. QNAS (the operating system) is built on Linux. The one thing I've spotted so far is that if a package includes binaries it has to be for ARM.

I don't think the Raspberry Pi binaries are compatible with that CPU, the original RPi is ARMv6, and the Pi 2 is ARMv7, but the Marvell 88F6282 is ARMv5 architecture.

I think DSLStats requires a graphical user interface. I suppose it might be theoretically possible if you compiled DSLStats for the appropriate ARM architecture, together with all the necessary libraries such as Gtk+ if they're not part of the operating system, and a vncserver or something so that you could leave it running and view it over the network, and bundle all that lot up into QPKG format.

ejs is right, and I don't think it would be possible to run it without a full GUI.

Is it QNAS or QTS?

Sorry - the OS is QTS (version 4.2.0)

If the GUI is entirely web browser based, that isn't really much help for running a program like DSLStats.
