RFC4638 (MTU 1500)
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:12:56 AM »

Morning all,

I've just noticed that there is a new firmware for my Draytek, but looking at what it includes that may be of benefit to be is support for MTU1500 under RFC4638.

Is this something that would actually be of any benefit to me, ECI cabinet if it makes any difference?

Yes, it would. :-)

I'm surprised the product doesn't already have it. Draytek are well-known for this feature.

In a modem to router system, for Rfc 4638 to work, modem and router and the link between them have to support baby jumbo frames (Ethernet frame payload size 1508 = 1500 + 8 bytes overhead for PPPoE). So three conditions have to be met.

If you are not using PPPoA, you also have to not be on 20CN ADSL, which is true for you.
