DSLstats and HG612 modem stats compatability
« on: September 12, 2015, 08:19:53 PM »

Is there some sort of issue with compatibility or anything that has changed with version 5.6?
Due to testing the TPLink I'd not updated to 5.6 until now.    Tonight I put the Zyxel back on and updated to 5.6

Im not sure why but I seem to be having problems logging stats since.  Either DSLstats will collect totals or HG612 will collect data.

You can see from the attached screenie that MDWS looks like some sort of morse code.
DSL stats is producing lots of these:

Code: [Select]
12 Sep 2015 19:54:50 Option "HG612-Modem-Stats co-operation" was set
12 Sep 2015 19:54:50 Snapshot folder is C:\Users\kitz\Desktop\Connection\dslstats\logs\
12 Sep 2015 19:54:53 Recording started
12 Sep 2015 19:55:37 Unable to login to modem/router
12 Sep 2015 19:59:37 Unable to login to modem/router
12 Sep 2015 20:00:37 Unable to login to modem/router

Things Ive tried so far

Restarting DSLstats several times
Restarting HG612 modem stats.
Checking that I only have one instance of HG612stats in Task Scheduler.
Checking that there isnt a stuck instance of HG612stats in Task Manager.
Restarting the PC
Rebooting the Router.

Manually trying to telnet into the router immediately after DSLstats says it cant, works fine.
I have not updated any f/w in the Zyxel router and didnt have this issue previously.

Not sure if its a co-incidence that Ive not uploaded to MDWS for several weeks, or if its the new version of DSLstats, or if its just one of those things  ???

Just looking at MDWS now it seem the upload data fragmentation has stopped at 20:04  :)

I haven't recently changed anything in the way the co-operation is organised. HG612_Modem_Stats runs each minute on the minute, and DSLstats runs at 35-40 seconds after the minute, which is confirmed by your snippet from the event log. Each program checks for the presence of the other to avoid clashes. Is this possibly related to the Zyxel firmware version?

Thank you for the replies.

It was doing it for 1.5 hrs.   Typically it stops straight after I posted about it and it has been ok since.

Ive not done anything different, and I dont think its f/w related because Im using the same one Ive used for months - never bothered updating because I find this one stable.

I really have no idea why it halted as soon as I asked about it.   Perhaps it was sulking because it hadn't been used for about 6 weeks :shrug2:

I get the same thing but have been putting it down to something on my PC.

I also get intermittent problems getting the GUI frontend for the Modem or Router to display sometimes.
When it is working it keeps working but periodically something appears to interfere with the comms.

I have previously blamed 'Script scanning' by AV and Anti-malware s/w which has demonstrated the same sort of interference.
(I now have 'Script Scanning' disabled on the addresses that equate to the router or Modem.)

I can't fathom what caused it..  nor why it suddenly ceased.

It was the first time I'd used it in 6wks, and I think I had the GUI open at one point -  Actually, I know I did to check the stats in the GUI, but I shut that down when I saw that DSLstats wasnt logging to make sure it wasnt a cause.

I wonder if the issue was somehow triggered by having the GUI open, and it took some time after closing the GUI before it sorted itself out. :-\

I had the same problem with dslstats 5.6 and a ZyXel vdsl modem router. pre release version 5.6.2 has cured it.
