has my speeds purposely been lowered?
« on: October 20, 2015, 05:21:18 PM »

yesterday i was connected at 80/20, today my line was restricted by bt because of a non payment (which has been payed now) and now its reconnected im only connected at 70/20.... g.inp is active and has been for months and my ping has remained the same, surely it cant just suddenly drop from a max of 85/20 to 70/20, bt said my line was all clear, but a 10Mbps is not acceptable to me.

also on the bt checker it says "this line has jumpers in place" what does this mean? the checker still says i can get 80/20

Welcome to the Kitz forum.

I think it is highly unlikely that a CP/ISP would resort to such "revenge tactics" because once found out, they would be subjected to severe scrutiny and possible penalties.

What I can do is to point you to an old forum thread with the title "This Line Has Jumpers In Place". Please have a read through it, as it will answer your latter query.

Probably what has happened is when you were reconnected there was more noise on the line, and therefore your speed had to be lowered to maintain the 6dB target SNRM.

my sync speed has dropped but also my max sync, so it was 85000/20000 with a sync of 80000/20000 and now my max is only 71000/20000 and a sync of 72000/20000, g.inp being enabled on my line i didnt think your sync could drop, is this not true?

could someone have been added to the cabinet to lower my speed? i didnt think it would drop this much :/

bt are saying its within estimate which isnt the point, they have made my sync drop.

No, BT haven't done that. It's automatically controlled by Openreach DLM in response to errors and disconnections.

What modem are you using?

dlm? i thought g.inp got rid of of dlm? ive had dlm before and my max attainable never dropped so why has it now? only my sync dropped.

im using a hg612 with the sp08 firmware, like i say, as soon as bt reconnected our internet its dropped 10mbps, it was 80 yesterday now 70, they must have touched something.

Are you monitoring your line stats using DSLStats or HG612-modem-stats?

When you say BT reconnected you, do you mean your phone line or was your connection working but you were in a walled garden?

i was using telnet as thats what i usually do, and i mean they disconnected us due to none payment, so from there side, they reconnected us this morning after i rebooted the modem, so unless someones being fiddling in the cabinet, our speed should not have dropped 10Mbps on the sync and should no way have dropped 15Mbps on the attainable.

yesterday was something like this

max attainable-  850000 21000  sync- 80000 20000

today

max attainable 70000 21000  sync- 72000 20000

to me thats a pretty big deal, speedtest now gives me, 66 down 17 up.

There's probably something in your line stats that will point to the reason for the drop, but I doubt it's something BT have deliberately done as they have no control over the cabinet.

as i say mate, i have g.inp, no crc's, no hec's, no nothing, my max attainable and sync speeds have simply dropped and are saying i can no longer get 80/20, this has happened over night and i have no line error, an engineer could have been fiddling with it though, i will have to get an engineer to change our port in the cabinet, they did this right at the start and our speeds went from 55 to 80, so it could be a dodgy port tbh.

It seems ironic that the figure 10Meg is roundabout exactly what one gets back in credit, once G.INP is applied to the circuit ? At least that is what happened to my speed increase when it was applied.

I do know from experience, that once a circuit had been 'recalculated' (ie:reset), it lost G.INP and it took a few days for it to be automatically applied. I have no idea if this is still the case though ?? Could it be the router is mis-reporting the G.INP status ??

Just clutching at straws really as I genuinely can't see it being a faulty port, that would be just too ironic that it goes faulty and loses exactly 10Meg on the day you accidentally missed paying a bill.  :)

g.inp is deffo there mate, i never get any crc's anymore, if g.inp wasnt there, dlm would have made my ping higher aswell with the decrease, maybe it has been reset like you say, but of a coincidence though on how its dropped after theyve reconnected me dont you think.

i was at 80 down 20 up before g.inp but i kept getting interleaved due to errors, my speed  stayed the same but no errors and better snr.

so it was 85000/20000 with a sync of 80000/20000 and now my max is only 71000/20000 and a sync of 72000/20000, g.inp being enabled on my line i didnt think your sync could drop, is this not true?

To me that sounds like a case of crosstalk the Max Attainable lowering by 14000 kbps as a new line or lines get added and disturbs your line.

probably crosstalk and a 10mbit drop at 85mbit is well within expected levels of crosstalk on a pair.

i just dont see it fair, how can they justify dropping someones speed by 10 Mbit...its disgusting, il be getting virgin media soon, id rather it be connected at 152 and drop to 100 sometimes than it just get slower as more people join.

bit shady how its happened as i get reconnected lol, darn people.
