the modem is syncing at 76, if you're only getting 55 that probably isn't the modem at fault.

It's a all in one Modem/Router, so it's a problem with the device somewhere.... which I'm trying to work out! :)

I don't think it's the device, I think it's possibly your IP profile or too much contention on the cabinet backhaul

doubt that very much, as I get 76MB down when I'm using the Openreach Modem and the Technicolour router...

Looking critically at the latest set of statistics that you have posted, we can see that the circuit would be capable of operating at ~97 Mbps DS and ~31 Mbps US if no profile cap was applied.

As you have purchased the top most tier of the Openreach FTTC product (80/20), we can see that the DSLAM - Modem have negotiated synchronisation at ~77 Mbps DS and ~20 Mbps US. Your expected throughput would be a little less than the latter values. So something, somewhere, is restricting the throughput you receive.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile you running both parts of the BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test, ignoring all the instructions displayed in red on the initial page -- just acknowledge them with a yes. Capture an image of the screen for the initial results and then take the bottom option to perform a further test. Capture an image of the screen for the second test. Then either post a typed synopsis of each screen or if you have the appropriate software (and ability) to obscure the personal identifiers, just attach both images to your next post to this thread.

after asking the same questions on the Asus forums I was directed to an updated (beta) firmware, which is 'DSL-AC68U_3.0.0.4_378_6994-g9deae8f_DSL_1.0.3.0.trx', I thought I'd give it a try as I have nothing to lose...

and low and behold...

I'm at a decent speed again, shall keep an eye on it for the next few days but hoping it stays this way! :)

fuzed - I have the same device. Can you please point me to where you were offered the beta firmware?

I thought I'd try the latest beta firmware just to see if anything's improved, sadly in my case it hasn't.

ECI DSLAM with fastpath, the connection managed to get over 11,000 CRC errors within 15 minutes (one or two massive CRC error spikes occurred while I was monitoring it). If and when G.INP arrives will only be the time when this device can work in a stable manner, or if your downstream happens to be interleaved and not fastpath.

how is the connection using the ISP supplied devices?  any differences, better?  Mine was good...

It's much better on the HG612, ECI /i or /r, the Fritz!Box 7490 and finally the Draytek Vigor 2860Vac (currently used). I typically get between 500 to 1000 ES daily on the Draytek, usually around 1000-1500 CRC errors, with the ASUS I managed to get more than 16,000 CRC errors in just over 7 hours of uptime on the latest unofficial firmware (DSL 1.0.3.2). The DSL-AC68U is fine provided you either have G.INP enabled on your DSLAM's port (which I don't, but you do) or the downstream path is interleaved and not fastpath.
