Cannot login to HG612
« on: September 14, 2015, 11:33:36 AM »

Caveat this modem has been flashed before several months ago to the G.INP f/w. But I cannot log into it as I intend to run the monitoring software.

I've also reset it following these instructions

Quote
The reset button serves three purposes:

(1) With the HG612 powered up, a “press and release” will cause the device to re-boot.

(2) With the HG612 powered up, a “press, hold for 5 – 10 seconds, then release” will reset the device to the default configuration and cause a re-boot.

(3) With the HG612 currently powered down, a “press, hold, power up the device, continue to hold for 10 – 20 seconds, then release” will cause the Broadcom bootloader firmware update page to be accessible from the default IPv4 address of 192.168.1.1

However entering username:admin password:admin
does not work.

I can get the EchoLife Home Gateway screen to appear when I enter the IP: http://192.168.1.1/

My connection is as follows:
HG612 WAN (LAN1) to WAN port on Asus AC66U
Asus AC66U Port 1 goes to my switch
Asus AC66U Port 2 goes to LAN 2 on the HG612
PC is connected via the switch

Asus Settings

LAN-LAN IP
IP Address: 192.168.1.2

LAN - DHCP Server
RT-AC66U IP address:192.168.1.2
IP Pool Starting Address:192.168.1.1
IP Pool Ending Address:192.168.1.254

PC Ethernet settings
- Obtain IP address automatically.
I did put in 192.168.1.100 and I got that limited access yellow symbol

Please help  ???

Your IP address pool on the AC66 starts at the same IP address as the HG612, I would change that to start at 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 if you can.

Also try setting the PC to a static IP address and connecting it directly to LAN2 on the HG612

I have tried changing the pool to 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 and even 192.168.2.0 but when I do I cannot even get the Huwaei home screen to show.

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus on the PC?

Just disabled windows defender and it didn't work. I will see if I can log in using putty

edit I can login via telnet using admin, admin but not the web interface.

edit - solved it using IE instead of Chrome. How odd is that?

Anyway I'm in, thanks for your suggestions but Chrome was the culprit. Now to find out why.

As you can probably tell, I've had similar problems in the past :)

These are my stats. I wanted to record them as I will have a mk3 faceplate and Tandy vdsl cable with me in the next couple of days so I can do a compare and contrast on how it affects my connection (if any). From my limited knowledge it doesn't look too bad. I'm with Plusnet paying for 80/20.

1136m away from Local exchange according to SamKnows. Is there anything else I need to take a screenshot of to make the whole test worthwhile?

Thanks

Edit - Solved the Chrome problem. It automatically had stored an incorrect username and password which was sticking even though I was entering admin, admin. The default Clear History doesn't work, so I checked passwords too and after a refresh I entered the details and voila!

I've noticed that some browsers seem to get weird when bookmarking or asking it to save passwords for 192.168.1.1 address. Firefox doesn't even list the username / password in my saved details list. It saved the router details but no mention of the modem. Though if I go to the modem page it signs me in with the correct detail.

I wonder if its some kinda bug that the browsers currently have.

Try re-flashing it again and make sure you disable the BT remote updates.

Installing the mk3 plate shows negligible difference

1136m away from Local exchange according to SamKnows.

Your line looks perfect with and without the SSFP MK3 the only thing the MK3 may do is to stop a few errored seconds getting in.

The distance on FTTC is taken from the fibre cabinet and not the exchange so your distance to fibre cabinet and looking your stats could be 150-250 meters away.

Thanks, just for completeness I also purchased the Tandy adsl vdsl cable and here are the results after a day
