Yes, I once asked a lady in a Manchester sandwich shop about her baps - she was visibly stunned.

Hmm, but for me (down South), a roll is likely to be firm or preferably crusty, whereas a bap will be the much softer kind, and a teacake will have dried fruit in it and you toast in before putting butter & jam on.

I'd have to go to a different baker if my oven bottom muffins looked anything like the one in the picture.

The "De-clerques" bakery on Greenacres Road (pronounced "Grinnickers" by locals) as mentioned in this link was less than 1 mile from where I live.
