I would migrate to a provider who offers the 40/10 unlimited product,

Which provider would you recommend, Tommy:-\

I have three ISP providers in mind that will give Big360 40/10 with unlimited usage SKY and EE or even BT but check the small print first  ;)

I would migrate to a provider who offers the 40/10 unlimited product, plusnet and tt are non professional shysters IMO A 2mbps upstream rate for a VDSL product Joke!!!
I think that, whatever you may feel about those providers' services, your post has uttered a libelous statement.

It is frustrating that TalkTalk don't offer a 40/10 service as in my case, I am on the 80/20 service and only acheive 50/11 so for me it would make more sense economically to be on the 40/10.

I'm sure that it's the difference between 11 & 2 US which you would notice more, rather than the difference between 50 & 40 DS. It really needs providers to appreciate that end-users require better US these days.  :-X

Remember the US sync rate is lower than the actual throughput speed for example say you had a US sync rate of 9000 kbps the thoughput will be around 7900 kbps.

so a us sync rate at 2000 kbps will equal a thoughput of 900kbps

It's my opinion, and they shouldn't be selling a FTTC product with a slower upstream sync Than ADSL2+ Annex M  can offer 2.5mbps ,

As said Sky,or BT at a push, and if you didn't mind going FMPF  (sky)  but there are also some of the smaller isp's  that sell 40/10 unlimited as well

I will say sky and I have my reasons.

Sky built their network to handle unlimited usage from day 1, as such it has massive capacity, as well as excellent peering.
Whilst BT and talktalk originally designed their networks with a policy that limited p2p etc. But then later for marketing reasons adjusted to unlimited usage.

I would stay away from plusnet, although kitz accepts plusnet's stance its a BTw issue, I disagree with her, people have moved to other BTw shared isp's and resolved their performance issues and plusnet staff are no longer blaming BTw.  BTw may have issues on their MSIL's but I dont think they solely to blame for plusnet's problems.

So ideally you want to avoid BTw altogether which means talktalk or sky, if you willing to risk BTw then use BT broadband not plusnet.

Also for what its worth I would probably do 40/2 and 80/20 also if I was an isp, purely to maximise revenues, although I would perhaps considering doing a 40/10 in the middle.  I think what killed 40/10 on plusnet was their daft idea to do 40/20 which probably murdered their 80/20 signup rates.

Thanks for the ISP suggestions. Unfortunately I've got a 2 year contract for the plusnet 40/2 package and am only 3 months in to it.

Hi all,
Just found this site and registered , congratulations on a very useful resource.

I have a question regarding IP profile and VDSL speeds. My brother has just has FTTC installed. He says he ordered the “70Mbs service”. Due to his distance from the cabinet he is only getting around 30Mbs download – similar to his neighbour.

My question is, if he changes to a 35Mbs   plan will he still get around  30Mbs speed or would that also drop to below half the 35Mbs as suggested by a visiting engineer?

He'll still get the 30mbs, its the same service, just with a software cap.

he may get a lower upload speed, depending on how the service is provisioned. His current service is likely provisioned as 80/20, if he switches down the new service could be provisioned as 40/2, which could well lead to a much reduced upstream speed.
