How long is the latency due to interleaving?
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:42:26 AM »

How long is the latency due to interleaving on ADSL and VDSL2 and so on at different link speeds? Kitz has figures of 40 ms for older protocols, down to 8 ms for VDSL2 iirc.

Link speed wont make any difference to delay per se, but it will to the overheads.

It also depends on the profile, but on VDSL low interleave is 8ms, high interleave is 16ms.
You can double that for round trip delay if both up and downstream are interleaved.

And I forgot about the doubling! It used to be a little bit higher on ADSL, didn't it?

Does the quoted interleave number indicate the number of transmitted symbols, or whatever the correct term is, (not bits), that the interleave straddles? (A symbol having more bits associated with it on a higher quality line, a bit like a base n number, more bits in the bins?)

The adsl (20CN) system is slightly different to the 21CN system as it has less configuration.

With adsl 2+ (and pre G.INP FTTC)  INP is one of the controlling parameters
