Extention line
« on: August 29, 2015, 08:03:10 PM »

Hello all, I have been reading these forums for a long time and now have a question that I need help with,

My phone line comes into my house near the front door  and the master socket is a mk3 faceplate, my modem  and pc are about 11 foot away and I have been connecting  from the master socket using a Mr telephone 5m extension that went under the carpet, I would  like to move my master socket closer to my pc as we are getting fibre in the next month,

I have a real of bt cable and another back box and mk3 face plate , can I just connect to the a and b on the socket run the cable under the carpet and install the new back box and mk3 face plate and just connect to the a and b connectors again , could I also just leave my telephone plugged in to the original  master socket

Hope this makes sense
Thanks for any replies

You certainly can do this, no problem.

If you have too much money causing a pain in your wallet, you could always ask BT Openreach to  do a 'change point of entry', this would move the master socket to be exactly where you want it. This would make sure that you get the fastest speed and the best reliability. It's what I did.

But seeing as its only 5 m, as long as you use quality extension cable, the returns might not be very great. It's your choice. Let us know how you get on.

It certainly is good enough, that's what BT use.

Yes, CW1308 is fine. But you don't want to have a second master socket. Instead of using another master socket as the modem extension, use an ordinary telephone socket instead. You can use a dangly filter, or get an extension socket with a filtered faceplate like this.

Roseway is quite right but don't use dangly filters long-term, they are too vulnerable, use the faceplate that Roseway recommended.
