TP link W9980 loss of admin admin
« on: December 03, 2015, 07:00:20 PM »

Helllo everybody,
Im new to the forum although I have followed the kitz advice for a while

I have a strange router problem which I would the TP Link experts to advice me about.

I have the TP Link W9980 - I am on BT VDSL 1 (capped at 40 meg)

I know I have set up the router correctly with the correct BT user name and password (homehub@btbroadband.com) I connect to the internet fine. Download speeds are fine for my line at 36 meg. I am 320 meters from the cabinet. (when it works with the OR outdated copper joints but thats another story)

However and this is the problem. The TP link router will not let me access the router stats pages with the default admin/admin unless I press the factory reset with a little pin.
I am not saying I cant get in there because I can. I just have to reset with a pin each time I want to access the settings. I have had this problem for a while. I conntected TP link and they sent me a new Router. The same happened?

I am not forgetting the router password. I never changed it from the default
I have google remember all my logins and password so I know its not human error.
I dont want to keep factory resetting because it affects the DLM and my sppeds drop
I am assuming the software is upto date as its a new router sent to me from TP link

I just wondered if there was a known glitch with this router.
Is there a one time use "admin admin" and thats your lot?
What should I try to do to prevent the TP link router forgetting that its default password is admin admin ?
anybody else come accross this issue?

Hi Millie, fancy seeing you here.  :)

Have you tried changing the password to something else to see if it retains that?

Hello Millie1 . . . (b*cat waves a friendly paw) . . . Welcome to the Kitz forum.

It certainly appears to be an obscure fault. And I can't say that I have heard of anybody else experiencing it. As you have the login credentials saved elsewhere, I would agree that licquorice's suggestion would be the next thing to try.

I have a TPLink router, not the same model, that refuses to let me access the interface unless I power it off and on again.
