Telemetry is sent once per 5 minutes, to:

When a webcam is first enabled, ~35mb of data gets immediately transmitted to:

Everything that is said into an enabled microphone is immediately transmitted to:

If Windows is left unattended for ~15 mins, a large volume of traffic starts being transmitted to various servers.

I was curious as this obviously is a very new domain with just one article so went to the source of "Some Czech guy".

The first thing that immediately caught my eye with the aid of google translate is that it appears to be pro-Russian/Anti-American "Alternative News" website.

Next stop wikipedia - Translation

I did mention the 'rider/doubt' re the detail.  ;D
I am reading a number of posts/articles that are focused on the same general points that MS is collecting lots of data for not too clear purposes.

It is just a short step away from the OS will not work unless you are on-line. (To facilitate a greater user experience  ::)  :o ;D )

They tried it with games, so why not try is with something more important/vital like the OS you use.  ??? ???

I am still incredulous at the ease with which people throw away their privacy & their family/friends/contacts privacy as well; for a 'Free' OS upgrade that you will pay for anyway once you are locked in.
After lock-in all rules can/will change.
Lets see what the landscape looks like in 12 months. Windows 8 will seem a fond memory by then.  ;D

Yep you did point out the doubt :)

I've also absolutely no doubt that it is sending more than we'd like as they do seem to be going down the google/apple route :(

I think that said website may perhaps have taken claims to the extreme though.
It doesnt exactly bode well when 'Some Czech guy' states 'there's no clear purpose for this considering theres no auto-correct/prediction anywhere on the O/S' which was very soon disproved.  ::)

Even when told not to, Windows 10 just can’t stop talking to Microsoft

Thats partly due to the way M$ have choosen to distribute updates etc. My understanding is that everyone running Windows 10 are participating in a P2P network for update distribution.

Maybe that is one reason M$ have stated that if you continually refuse to download updates they will stop you getting updates altogether?

If half of what is claimed is data mined by M$ I would be interested in knowing what enterprise, military and other clandestine customers make of all this. I can't see them opting for an OS which leaks  :-[

Back in the 1990s I worked at a site where there was a US Dept of Defense system classified as secure and in order to achieve that it had NO connections to the outside world! When I saw what it was used for I completely understood why it had to be that secure!

that is a very useful article.

one could do dns lookups for those ip's say every 24 hours on their router, then add firewall rules to block/redirect the traffic to those ips.

I might make such a script actually and post it to the asuswrt forums.
