I think you may find that most people here will also recommend AVG, especially the free version.

I have both versions (on different PCs obviously) and to be honest there is practically no difference between the two, or at least none that I could mention, both give the same level of, security and updates

PS. They have "slightly" changed their name recently from Grisoft AVG to "AVG Technologies"
But still the same web address.

I used to install avast on any new machines I'd set up for people..  been a while since I used it as I seem to use AVG too these days.
There wasnt any real reason why I swapped over, since Avast was good.

I normally keep a list here...  so if anyone else knows anymore let me know

I used to use Avast, but the only problem I found with it was it would not let me restore anything from the "so-called" virus vault.

Yes, although technically a key-generator or illegal software patch may be classed as a Trojan or Virus, but once in the vault it could not be retrieved/restored, hence the change over to AVG.
