HG612 bad connection speeds, ECI ok
« on: July 28, 2015, 12:24:50 PM »

Hi,

I've recently had some problems with my 80/20 Plusnet FTTC connection. I have been using an unlocked HG612, with G.INP enabled my speeds were 74Mbps/15Mbps. A fault developed in the copper joints between the modem and the cabinet according to Plusnet, Openreach have now fixed the issue leaving me with the following stats:

modem info:

Decided to go back to the HG612, interleaving seems enormous and for some reason G.INP is disabled but the speeds are much closer to what I had before the problems. Can swapping the modem reset settings somewhere? Is there any way I can get G.INP back?

Swapping the modem won't reset the connection. At a guess, bebooting the HG612 instead of swapping to the ECI would have achieved the same result. It looks as though there was some temporary line condition which resulted in the previous low speeds with the HG612. You can see that it had a very high downstream SNR margin, which means that whatever condition existed when it connected had since gone away.

You are connected to a Huawei cabinet, so G.Inp should be applied quite soon. There's no way to hurry that along.

I had rebooted the HG612 multiple times over a number of days, it was only after swapping to the ECI that something changed. I guess it was just a coincidence, will the interleaving drop down if I leave the connection alone? An Openreach engineer is booked in for Friday, is there anything that they will be able to do?

If there was a physical problem with a joint in the D-side cabling, then once it had been fixed a circuit recalc (reset) would be justified. If it was a network engineer (telephony) who fixed the fault, then it is likely that a recalc has not yet been done. If the engineer booked to attend this Friday is multi-skilled, s/he could arrange for the circuit recalc . . . assuming s/he has access to the notes that relate to the joint repair.
