HG612 Stats
« on: July 07, 2015, 04:56:24 AM »

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum so go easy on me!  ;)

I have unlocked my HG612 modem with the latest firmware B030SP08

I'm currently using myDSLwebstats and HG612 modem stats.

Is there away I can keep seeing my line stats without connecting to the HG612 via Ethernet? It's quit frustrating really but if that's the only method I guess it's fine it's not a big deal just trying to make life easier  ;D

Hi and welcome.

I'm afraid I'm not clear what the question is. The only way to connect to the HG612 is via ethernet. But if you're using it in bridge mode with a router, and you want to do without the second ethernet cable, then it's possible but somewhat more complicated - see http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,15343.msg291580.html#msg291580

Thanks for your quick reply  ;)

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding  :-\

But you got there in the end  ;D

As I'm on FTTC connection all I need to do is ' below '

Change the HG612 from 192.168.1.1 > 192.168.1.200

' PS ' my draytek Router IP pool DCHP is 192.168.1.10/200

I can do the other setting but unsure on the IP's

I think we are unclear about this

The easiest way is to use the two ethernet cables as outlined here.

If you are wanting to use only one ethernet cable, then things are a bit more complicated.

Can you please confirm which method you are wanting to use

I'm wanting to use just one so its monitoring the connection 24/7 instead of getting the laptop and going downstairs and plugging it in the HG612.

Thanks you

You will always need to have a computer connected to monitor the connection.

I think whats he's doing is taking his laptop down and plugging it into lan 2 to get the stats.

All you need to do is change the IP address of the modem so it's on your local IP address range and connect lan 2 to your router, then you can access it via your local network. Just make sure that address is outside the range the router is dishing out, which is pretty much what you said in your earlier post.

Assuming your ROUTER is located downstairs, near the HG612, you could connect the HG612's LAN2 port to a spare port with a short cable as described by Ronski.

Although not usually as reliable as an Ethernet cable connection to your ROUTER, you could then connect your laptop to it wirelessly to obtain the stats.

Unfortunality the Router is upstairs and the modem is downstairs I've got a 30m Ethernet cable from down to up.

What about power line adapters?

You could try a pair of these, one each end of your 30m cable. Then 4 short patch cables  to connect your equipment.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/RJ45-Ethernet-Splitter-Connector-Adapter/dp/B004SJXRP4

It splits the 4 pairs so each connection has 2 pairs which is good enough for 100mb per connection instead of 1Gbps you can get with the 4 pairs.

What about power line adapters?

Don't touch them, they can cause massive interference with vdsl signals. Ronski has a good solution if you don't want to run another cable.

So I need to by two of these Ethernet splitters and connect them to both ends of the 30m Ethernet cable?

I fort that they can't work together only one is allowed at a time?

I'm using powerline adapters now I haven't got much of a chose as I have a you view box which is in one of the bedrooms  :(

Wonder if that's making the SNR drop?
