Bitloading on FTTC
« on: June 30, 2015, 08:09:13 AM »

Is there any obvious reason for the dip at about tone 300 in the attached image? I moved from ADSL2+ to FTTC to overcome recurring problems with the aluminium feeding my property. Could this be the faulty aluminium showing up?

I believe that dip is normal: it's a power mask applied to FTTC to stop the VDSL2 frequencies from interfering with ADSL frequencies from the exchange.

Yep as ip75 says, the dip centred around tone 300 is normal on VDSL.   The shape of the dip is all down to PSD masks which are used to help prevent crosstalk.   There are several different PSD masks and the amount of PCB depends on 1)The distance of your cabinet from the exchange and 2) How far away your home is from the cab.     Without it, your vdsl connection would drown out any neighbouring adsl lines.
