Well in that case then perhaps if I plugged the HG612 back in and let it works its magic for a couple of weeks, then ring BT and get them to send out an engy I could "suggest" to him that maybe my modems up the duff and would he pretty please with sugar on top give me a new one. I mean I got the current HG612 for free, the ECI for free and (apart from being forced to pay the postage on it) the HH5 for free so I think I'd like to stick with that tradition.

Edit: This all of course assuming the instability was being caused by the modem being faulty and it isn't just the fact my line can't handle speeds over 20mbit anymore for whatever reason (fault or otherwise, still I suppose even in that case a BT engineer should still come out and fix the damn thing).

The stop date after which Openreach will no longer supply a modem is January 2016.

The stop date after which Openreach will no longer support a modem that they have previously supplied is January 2017.

Also there is a chance the hg612 would be replaced with an ECI.

I've just noticed he says BTWholesale. They don't have anything to do with the HG612...

The testing is done by BT Wholesale..    Dunno about the rest of the claims though
It would be interesting to know which firmware is in use  :-X

Note that he has several other routers for sale..... like the description for the HomeHub5A

Quote
G-Vector & G.INP
Legacy Adaptive Compliant

So his is fully G.INP compliant yet the other HH5A's arent?

The line has started to drop with the ECI modem now. I noticed the other day in my router stats it had only had a connection for a week (after being connected for over a month), now it's saying 16 hours. Speed has gone through the floor too. Wonderful! Been putting it off for months and months, but I think it's clear now I need an engineer out here so they can bloody well fix whatever is wrong.
