I was planning to change from BT ADSL to SSE as they have some good offers.

When I entered my line details on the SSE page, I got this very strange result:

Our estimate of your broadband line speed is between 7 Mbps and 8 MbpsΔ

Fibre broadband is also available on your line and our estimate of your fibre broadband line speed is between 5 Mbps and 8 MbpsΔ

Fibre broadband at no faster speed than ADSL? How can that be? Can anyone explain please?

FFTC with a longer/worse copper run than the ADSL ?

Mind you if SSE is Scottish and Southern, I would expect anything when Heavies try playing at Electronics (or as they call it "Light Current " ) !!!

So SSE are simply quoting the worst case for FTTC.

But then, who would want to get FTTC, pay more, but only get slight - if any - speed increase?

Or am I missing something?

Your problem may be that you're a long way from the cab.
