Diagnosis of a continuous connection problem
« on: May 14, 2015, 03:28:39 PM »

For some reason, my internet connection stopped working, and I need some help diagnosing the problem.
For over two years I have had excellent internet connection, but for some reason it now keeps cutting out every 1-2 minutes. I have attached a graph of my SNR margin which shows the connection being established and then lost.

I am not sure if it is a line fault, a problem with my router or a problem with a PC.

My downstream/upstream connection stats are as follows:

Downstream connection rate 10,665/1,020

SNR margin (dB) 6.3/7.6

Attenuation (dB) 39.0/20.6

The connection seems to drop soon after I open my browser, or every minute or so if I let my PC idle.

Is there any way for you to diagnose and fix this problem?

Could you attach your Hlog, QLN and CRC errors graphs?

Can you access the router during the times when the connection is down?

Perhaps run a continuous ping to it to check.

You don't mention wether your using Lan or Wireless if it's wireless then the dongle needs replaced or just a firware update if it's lan then the fingers points to either the NIC card on PC again a possible update my fix this or the modem/router itself.
