The world's worst website?
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:38:09 PM »

Don't even think of clicking on this link unless you have a fast computer, plenty of memory, and a fast internet connection. :(

God that is bloody awful...  I had data coming down at 1.9Mbps at one point if the file was large enough..  and lots of smaller spikes for the smaller images.

15 mins later and Opera is still waiting.. and Im still receiving small packets of data from the site..

The page is using 97% of my processing power and 1.13GB page file usage

----------------------

Edit - it got me and I had to kill Opera via the Process Manager.
managed to get this screen cap just before it did.

It clearly shows on there how much has been downloaded and the time so far to load.

I thought I'd just try it again to time it, 4 minutes and 20 seconds till it said it was done.

(got to confess the technical stuff puzzles me :-[)

I tried it in IE just to see..  and after about 5 mins IE said the page was "Done" in the bottom left

but looking at the page - there were many items and images which havent loaded.
It was still doing stuff in the background though and still silently taking 45% of CPU usage..  and my CPU temp  was recording 51 degrees C.

The minute I closed the page CPU went down to 1%..  and the temp soon dropped to its more normal 40 degrees C.

I normally only see 51C if Im really stressing the PC..  or say if I've been playing a game with pretty high res graphics for a long while and am "shooting to kill" like crazy.  Dont think Ive ever seen a web page make it do that before.

Likewise I also couldn't resist trying.

But all I got was "Server could not be found"
But, I also noticed at the same time, PC World was getting blocked by PG2 (HTTP setting)
"Sneaky spy-ware"

Much like another well known computer site, again I have had to turn off HTTP in PG2 (reduce my security level) or the site either took forever, or would not open at all, all because of advertising tracking spy-ware.
(At least that is what they told me when I asked)

No, I snook-in earlier today to retrieve any PMs
Half the facilities of a proper site still do not work or do not exist.

How Draconian is it that you have to keep going there just to see if a reply has been made!

IE, I have just been down to the shops (out-door actually), came back opened my emails and your reply was here which saved having to open the site "just in case" along with 5 others from other sites I visit.

***********

Now to go and fix the front door, because I had to break-in as the lock went faulty and it would not open, needles to say, phone and phone book with emergency numbers were in the house.

It loaded in about 2 seconds for me using firefox.

Not the best designed page I've ever seen.
