my ip profile has increased to 6500 or so, i am happy with that, i have been using routerstats since you gave me the link and the snr margin never dropps belowe 16 (i have not had any issues since monday) not sure what was happening but lets hope its passed.

i am glad that i found this site, it is so great when you find a community that is willing to help, i have used many sites to gain help with my problems and it is always nice to repay the favour. Its nice to be nice!!

BTW, i have a new keyboard so apologies for the typos. lol

>> my ip profile has increased to 6500 or so, i am happy with that

Good stuff :)

>> i have been using routerstats since you gave me the link and the snr margin never dropps belowe 16 (i have not had any issues since monday)

Out of interest which ISP are you with - if it remains that stable you may be able to request them to get BT to reduce your target snr back down again.. if you say to them it looks like the high increase was the result of a line fault which has now cleared.
I'd only do this though if its been stable for a while on routerstats.

>> not sure what was happening but lets hope its passed.

I hope it has too - fingers crossed for you.

>> i am glad that i found this site, it is so great when you find a community that is willing to help, i have used many sites to gain help with my problems and it is always nice to repay the favour. Its nice to be nice!!

Indeed - one of the benefits of community sites.  If you stick around you'll find we're a friendly bunch..  and heck you even may even be able to help someone with their problem too :D
Although we may not have actually cleared the problem for you.. at least you know now what has been going on.

>> BTW, i have a new keyboard so apologies for the typos. lol

oh dont worry about those - Im the typo queen

lol just came back to this after posting elsewhere -  as something just dawned on me,

From something you wrote elsewhere you perhaps think I'm male..
therefore thought I best put the record straight in case you thought "queen" meant something else.

Sorry Ive  took your thread off topic again

hahaha

thanks for making me smile on such a misrable thursday morning.  Apologies for my presumption about you being male  :-[

My Isp is Plusnet, do you think once my line is stable i should ask them to reduce my snr? i wouldnt like to make my line unstable again but if it would benefit me in some way (mabea speed wise) then i would do it. although i have to admit that i would sacrifice speed for stabiliy anytime. (especially since i like to play online).

I will stick around, although i dont know anywhere near as much about adsl as you guys (ok i know nothing hehe) i might be able to help some lost soul who is havign general IT problems. I do frequent some other IT forums where we help out people in much the same way you have done for me. I think that is how i am aware how much effort it takes.

For now i am off to my typing class  :P

Have a good day

yw - we aim to please :)

>> Apologies for my presumption about you being male

nah dont worry about it - its common and Im very used to it.
It was only because I put the "typo Queen" comment... then 10 mins later it struck me that you thought I may have meant something else.
Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to clarify

>> My Isp is Plusnet, do you think once my line is stable i should ask them to reduce my snr?

If its stable for a while then the theory is the DLM should adjust by itself.  However self adjustment by the DLM isnt one of those things that is documented anywhere and does sometimes seem a bit random. It may take a month or so.
Plusnet is however one of the ISPs that will attempt to poke BTw if it does get stuck.

>> I will stick around, although i dont know anywhere near as much about adsl as you guys.. [snip]

Please do, everyone's contribution is always welcome. :)

Hello again Kitz and friends

after 3 weeks or so of perfect internet i find myself running routerstats again (blooming excellent program, is now in my top 5 apps of the year), as you can see from the pictures my snr is swinging wildly, nothing changed at my end but something obviously causing noise on my line. any advice for this poor soul :)

Those very short bursts of low noise margin look very much like the sort of thing you can get from a dodgy thermostat (fridge/freezer/central heating for example). If you try to take note of the times when thermostats cut out, you might be able to relate those times to the routerstats graph for the same period.

i checked the times and none of them match, infact its doing it now and their is no thermostat or switching going on. tbh i would have found it strange if it was something internal, this was fixed after a bt eng came out and did something to my telephone line, my snr was solid 16db (like never ever missed a beat in the following weeks after his visit) and now all of a sudden its doing it again, nothing atall has changed at my end.
can i ask bt to raise my snr, or is their a way they can set it at a set db, i would happily give up dl speed for a stable line.

It looks as though your target noise margin is already at the maximum value of 15 dB so I don't think they will put it any higher. I think in your position I would want to try to trace the source of the interference, but there are so many possibilities that a fair bit of detective work may be needed.

On the other hand, how often does the router actually drop its connection? If it's still fairly rare, it may not be worth bothering about.

well it sat at 16db after the eng came out and no problems (i called bt and another eng is out tommoz, they said last eng said he terminated at pole again)

i did all the detective work the last time and i traced abit of interfearance from my sky box (using a am radio) i took my skybox out the socket and it has been steady for about 30 mins (although it did cut out when the woman from bt was doing the line test)

seems abit weird, i am stickin to my theory about the 16db lol as it seems the most viable.

frustrating as heck though thanks for your input rosewood
