Horrendous. All the grief these fools cause. I'm assuming that they were after copper?

An idiot cut into a fibre cable where it emerges from the shore of the sea-loch Loch Carrann a few years ago. After copper. Caused some thankfully limited chaos, cut various vital local services off. Somehow I myself was unaffected even though users a few miles away who were much nearer to the Broadford exchange, which serves me, were stuffed completely.

Utter desperation from these copper diving knuckleheads. I hope they catch them, with all the CCTV around here how can they miss someone popping down a manhole. Actually, next time go for the actual copper coming from the cabinet, at least this may help improve my connection speeds when they have to re-run the copper.  ;)

Forgot to mention that this cut has affected "1190 people" (I assume FTTC enabled lines) given in the information passed to me from Zen.

ETA on the BT site (http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/service_status/a_id/27639) has now been pushed to 20:00 but somehow I think that is a bit optimistic.

And its up! Just in time for me when I got home. Actually came up just before 7:00pm 06/07/2015.

A+ to the cable team I think!

Now to monitor ans see if it improved things.

My traceroute, and it looks like I am on dsl1.

Just had a drop. Thought it was a pppd drop at first but saw that it was an actual resync.

Routing through dsl4 now, last session was through dsl1.

traceroute to www.zen.co.uk (212.23.0.100), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1  192.168.2.254 (192.168.1.254)  0.315 ms  0.580 ms  0.569 ms
2  losubs.subs.dsl4.th-lon.zen.net.uk (62.3.84.19)  7.113 ms  7.119 ms  7.486 ms

I'll try and catch one that is not due to a re-sync.

Whilst potentially not related, it would be interesting to see if you see the crazy latency I did (80-90ms) to the BBC through DSL4 (tried bouncing PPP multiple times, couldn't get on a different gateway this time) - yesterday when Andy Murray was playing it was mad, crept up from 18ms early afternoon until it was 80-90ms at the peak, as soon as the game finished it started to come back down.

Rains have come and seems to be a lot more stable and held for 48 and a bit hours before the last resyncs occured. I'll keep an eye on it if there is a correlation with rain and better stability.

One huge thing happened last sync, G.INP was removed from the upstream only and set to fastpath (Interleave 0). Lost 2Mbit in sync speed dropping from 17 to 15.  I doubt the fastpath will hold up long so I think the 15 will get even lower. Wait and see...

I never did a have a problem with the upstream as it has always been the downstream that has been problematic with ES and CRC  errors.

Just happy that it's been stable, though no idea what has made it better as I have changed nothing on my end.

Again more rain and lower temperatures.
The Line has held for the past 3 days now  :fingers:.

I'll keep an eye on it when the weather gets better (hot and dry). If it worsens then, maybe the disturber is a neighbours cooling system \ ac unit?

Are you sure that Interleave depth was set to 0?

When G.INP was removed from the US on my connection, US Interleave depth was reset from a value of 4 to a value of 1 (the usual 'fastpath' indicator).

Bearer 0 INP (Impulse Noise Protection) was set to 0 though, from the previous G.INP active value of 41.

You are correct Bald_Eagle1, my mistake. Interleave is set to 1 for fastpath on my US.

Thankfully DRM has not intervened as of yet.
I think my line was better off with G.INP turn on for US. I had higher US sync @ just under 18Mbps.

I don't mind though as long as its stable 4days and 9hours now!

This is Bull$hit! A crapload of sync dropouts today.  >:(
I think it does happen more often when it's hot like today 26C.

Large SES spikes so some serious disturbance. SNR graph like a roller coaster during these times.
It was looking good at the end of July but when august hit it went to $hit again!

Fast speeds are useless when the $hit is up and down all the time from increasing interference.
Would it be worth going with A&A to help solve this intermittent problem? I feel Zen have no fight in them.

Then the HR fault becomes more obvious when the underground joins expand due to higher temperatures  :(

Just revisiting this for conclusion's sake.

Been busy at work for the fast few months so left the issue to it's own devices.

Uptimes are gradually getting better now with connections breaking the 24hr mark. So fingers crossed it gets better. Current uptime is at 125hrs. Don't know if I can correlate the better performance due to the weather getting cooler. I don't think I'll see the last of this issue but its now manageable. Still a far cry from weeks+ connection up-times I was getting before.

Not so confident about the future g.fast and 30a profiles that may be implemented by Openreach due to this intermittent interference on the line.

Wishing for an affordable full fibre to the premises product so I can dodge these interference issues altogether.

In the meantime I have replaced my switch from a Netgear GSM7224 to a GSS116E as the 7224 was taking up too much space and didn't need that many ports.

Also waiting for one of the new Unifi ap ac pro's to come into stock to replace the Unifi AC and AC66U for wifi.

The Edgerouter Lite is now my full-time Router as it just does a fantastic job with its fq_codel implementation.
Also managed to get MTU set to 1500 over the pppoe openreach fttc connection after reading up that RFC 4632 capable.

Now, time to concentrate on updating my trusty Fileserver/VM box.
