Google DNS... timing out?
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:11:21 PM »

I'm seeing borked page refreshes here tonight and on closer inspection, packet loss to Google DNS, both 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

No loss to my router or the bbc...?

Likewise some days back, after three days of continual timeouts/website not found/not responding. Back to OpenDNS and immediate relief  :D

For me 8.8.8.8 is OK but 8.8.8.4 times out. Probably this and what follows in the attachment is irrelevant but the enquiry on 8884 shows a different route with something in lines 7 and 10.

If nothing else you can educate me. Comp has felt sluggish sometimes of late.

The Google public DNS servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (not 8.8.8.4).

Could one 8 to many coupled with one 4 too few account for what you have observed?  :-\

I actually switched to opendns a few days ago after discovering its much better for uk akamai stuff, opendns now also properly deal with NX requests so I think they a better option than google dns now.

Although I have just manually routed my ps4 dns to plusnet's dns servers as its the only way I can get decent download speeds of psn.
