« on: April 03, 2015, 07:19:38 PM »

Is a good nosie margin lower or higher? Mine is currently 6.0 / 6.6 so what is my noise margin out of the 2 numbers? is 6.0 whats the DSLAM is trying to get to and 6.6 is mine

heres my bt stats
8. Noise margin:   6.0 / 6.6
9. Line attenuation:   11.5 / 11.7
10. Signal attenuation:   11.4 / 11.7

is it good or bad

The two figures are downstream and upstream, and which way round they are depends on how the particular modem reports them.

There's no 'good' or 'bad' value, it depends on the condition of the connection and what you want from it. Larger values will give you lower speed and greater stability; smaller values will give you higher speed and less stability. That's an over-simplification of course. 6 dB is a typical initial target SNRM, and is generally considered a sensible value.

Roseways description above, is perfect for the layman. Short, sweet and to the point.  :)
