Same here.

Yes, well and truly down. The disk corrupted at 01:50, rebooted and couldn't load the database.

It's okay at the moment after a restart but I am going to take the server down in a while and recover to a new disk.

Okay, back up from 10:20 or so. Have cloned it to a spinning disk rather than an SSD as hopefully that will cope better. Once it's all cached the delivery speed isn't much different.

I'll mirror it as soon as another disk I just ordered arrives. A few more changes to come yet over the week but downtime shouldn't be too long (famous last words  :wry: )

Thanks.

[Totally off Topic]
You have highlighted the concerns I still have with SSD's.
They are wonderful but if you are constantly writing/re-writing the possibility of exceeding the wear limits is possible in 10's of months not years.

I know I am now going to get 'hit' by the maths Arrgh !!!  ;D

What make of ssd was it?

Intel is my preferred choice.

Intel of course, particularly at the enterprise end of the market. You do pay for it though.
Samsung is also good and getting better. But still concerned though 😃

Liteon - cost £250 (+VAT) odd to replace so didn't!

It lasted 4 months.... (it came with the machine)

Problem is that with at least one (actually more like 6) write per second, it never gets a chance to use its wear levelling software - they say to leave it quiet for 6 hours every so often!

ip75,
See this one I have been following: http://www.kitguru.net/components/ssd-drives/zardon/ocz-challenge-kitguru-to-kill-5x-arc-100-ssd-drives/

Also very interesting.

tbailey2,
Could have use a mirrored pair of SSD's that you could drop one of the pairs out of, at regular intervals to 'Wear level', alternating the SSD each time.

Considering the usage it's getting, it's probably is better to use a conventional disk, I doubt donations stretch to an enterprise class SSD.

Interesting challenge on the OCZ ARC 100, first died at 322TB of data written, the last was still going at well over 500TB by the looks of it, last update I can find was 19th March, surely it's died by now!

No still going as far as I can tell. There is a competition running to guess the final ssd's point of Failure.

It's been on a spinning WD red drive since that day as already noted. I have a NAS here with five in and that's been running for over 3 years.....
