FTTC cabinet?
« on: March 25, 2015, 05:09:34 PM »

On my travels, I have noticed an interesting cabinet, which I believe to be an FTTC cabinet but perhaps not.

There are three cabinets, all next to each other. One looks like a new-style PCP cabinet, one an old-style "T" cabinet and then there is a new-style PCP but with vents?

Is this an FTTC cabinet?

Quite possibly. Certainly any cabinet with vent apertures will have some form of active electronics inside. However it could be for a mobile phone service. Is there a mobile phone mast nearby?

Do you have a photograph or two to share? That would be the simplest way to resolve your query!  ;)

As b*cat says, a photo is best.   I know someone who got all excited when they noticed some cabs go in and thought they were fttc.    I drove past them the next time I went to visit them, and soon spotted that they were actually mobile phone cabs.

The cabs that BT are known to use for FTTC can be seen at the bottom of this page here

Hi all,

It looks just like this, except it has vents on the front.

You can always use street view on google earth if the maps are upto date like my one it shows the copper cabinet (PCP) in the foreground and the FTTC Huawei 288 in the background.

Aardvark has cleared up the problem. Indeed, I couldn't see it highlighted so never thought to click on the actual word. Cheers all.

So what exactly is it? It's got two PCPs next to it, one old type and one slightly newer type. I had a look on Google Maps (which is horrible by the way: I dislike the new design) but couldn't see anything.

I'd have to see the actual Cabs themselves, I'm afraid. Street furniture is rife these days and could be anybody's ??

Hi all,

Sounds like a mobile mast cabinet. Any of these look like it: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2c2IeOdO_rY/VPd_61R8QBI/AAAAAAAAT9g/Wtv0mHc5U2Y/s1600/Green%2BBoxes%2B-%2Bafter.jpg

What an ugly looking quartet!  :-X

We have some of these round here, O2/Vodafone masts are getting these new cabs when going to 4G.

Did you check the images in the link that Kitz previously posted? Is the mysterious cabinet shown there?

Attached below is an image of a very rare beastie -- An "All In One" DSLAM and PCP.
