Every FTTC Cab Lost Sync on Exchange
« on: March 18, 2015, 12:20:19 AM »

Strange one this evening. Was watching tv and on the web when all of a sudden everything went.

Checked the modem, no sync (No Signal) showing on the HG612 gui.

Was speaking to a friend at the time on the same exchange, different cab and he said his had done the same. Live about 10 mins from me.

Seems a coincidence the cabs both lost sync, possible the G.INP upgrade being rolled out  ??? Either way, lasted about 5 mins. No outages reported by TalkTalk, and I doubt they'd be responsible for no sync?

Possible... or with it being both cabs at the same time perhaps something on the backhaul/OLT.  As you correctly say, it cant have been TT to cause a loss of sync.

A friend round the corner on a different cab just text me saying did I lose sync. Seems something peculiar going on. Only time will tell if G. InP appears

Plusnet have announced a loss of some connections in Wales.
May be connected to the event or its recovery.

Investigations are on-going.

We're currently aware of a problem resulting in customers being unable to connect to the internet in Wales

This is impacting customers who are attempting to establish new connections and those who have recently disconnected and are now unable to reconnect.

If you're currently connected you should be able to continue using your broadband connection as normal.

We're investigating the cause and will provide another update later this evening.

Not in the affected area codes and not with Plusnet, seems a separate issue perhaps  ???

I was refering to a possible bigger event or its recovery process that had affected both TT & Plusnet.

Sorry if not clear, late night and fingers that don't work. ;D

I can't see how anything on the backhaul or OLT could affect the synchronisation of a DSLAM/MSAN with a CPE.  :-\  For example, Big Barry could have dug through some ducting which carries the fibre optic cables from the head-end to the various cabinet DSLAMs/MSANs. The service would obviously stop but all DSLAMs/MSANs and CPEs would still be in synchronism.

How about a short power cut, affecting only the supply to the cabinets and not to your houses?

Plus, this affecting numerous cabinets over a 5 mile or so radius. I would highly bet a G.INP rollout. Only time will tell.

b*cat nods.  :)

It seems as if a control signal was sent out to the group of DSLAMs/MSANs which initiated a synchronisation drop at the beginning of some process. Once that process had concluded, another control signal initiated the resynchronisation of the DSLAMs/MSANs and CPEs.

Think you're right Mr B*cat there was downtime for exactly 10 minutes, so its seems a planned thing.

Ive just had a weird outage @ 00:00:37 according to my logs it just says LCP Down. Reason:0 lower down

Came back up at  00:50:27 VDSL link up.
Not sure what (if) other cabs were affected but seems strange to happen bang on midnight.  50 mins is a long time for a software upgrade though.  :-\
