Resetting the Desktop - Packard Bell iMedia
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:59:16 AM »

Hiya gang,

I recently changed my Desktop background on my Windows computer, completely by mistake. I would like to revert it back to the default Packard Bell background. Are there any Packard Bell users here who know how it's done. I do have the Master Disks, but just cannot see how to do it.

Any help appreciated,

TIA

Hiya

You won't need the master disks, it'll be on your hard drive somewhere. I don't know exactly where the file would be.

First of all, look in display properties - assuming you're using Windows XP, right-click on a blank area of the desktop (i.e. anywhere else apart from on an icon or the taskbar), then click Properties from the menu that appears.

Then, click the "Desktop" tab at the top. If the Packard Bell picture is not listed in the list of pictures here, you may have to click Browse to find it. It's more than likely to be either in C:\Windows or in a folder within there.

If you can't find it, you can click on Start --> Search and search your "Local Hard Drives" for all pictures. I've disabled the search wizard on my PC so I can't tell you exactly, but I think if you search for all files and folders and put the following in the search box:

*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.bmp;*.png;*.gif

It'll work through and show every picture file on your PC! Alternatively you could try searching for "packard" which may turn up something, depending of course on what they called the file originally.

And in worst case, even if you can't find the exact Packard Bell image, you might find another one that you like better ;D

Would this be the image in question?

hi toulouse

if reselecting the background does not work then try a system reastore back to a time before you changed the background.

Toulouse,
Just found it on my PB.
As Mr Chris said:
Right click the empty desktop -> select Properties -> Desktop Tab.
In the Background box scroll to Deskand click it theat should be the one you want, as Floydy posted a picture of.
Click Apply -> OK.

You can also select any of the preinstalled piccies or one of your own from My Pictures.

Hello and thanks to the following forumites :

 mr chris,
 floydoid,
 pwiggler and
 dave.m

I'd just like to say a BIG thank you to each and everyone of you in helping me to restore my previous default background.
It certainly wasn't as straightforward as these things really should be, but I did get there in the end using a combination of the ideas suggested by each of you. The actual image file was found in a directory called C:\APPS\Desktop and the file name was BG1280UK.
I assume the 1280 is one of the screen resolution parameters as there were others like BG800UK and BG1024UK.

Anyway, I'm waffling a bit aren't I ? I really ought to get out more !!!!

Once again guys, thanks very much, and the next time each of us meet in the VIRTUAL PUB, you are each entitled to a pint, OK

Thanks for letting us know how you fixed it, Mick.

It looks like the number codes are screen res as you said.
