ECI modem connected to Huawei cabinet
« on: April 30, 2015, 03:35:59 PM »

Does it matter what modem I am using? In this case I have an Openreach ECI modem but the cabinet it's connected to is the Huawei 288. Should I be using a HG612 or doesn't it matter?

I have a spare HG612 modem here but it says "2B" on the back. Should I be worried about the overheating issue with this model?

A Huawei HG612 v3B with the latest firmware can take advantage of G.INP on the Huawei cab, but the ECI modem can't.

Ah this one is the 2B model. Will that not work? Also how do I update the firmware? Is that done by the cabinet or do I have to do it?

I think the G.INP firmware will work on that too. BTAgent may do it automatically, but I upgraded mine myself as I wanted an unlocked modem.

A client of mine also has an eci modem on a huawei cab, the eu is very close to the cab and using the plusnet ip profile they are connected at

Current line speed:
72.2 Mb

Pings are about 24ms located West Wales (exchange SWHV).

Writing the above I have just convinced myself that they are indeed affected by g.inp being active; does everyone agree?

Do you know if their pings were significantly better than that a little while ago?

No I don't know, I have no records of latency beyond the last month, or speed.

The end users have not reported any problems (an office of about 20) but I am sure that the plusnet profile used to be 77 point something Mb/s (the max I think)

It sounds like g.inp - an increase in pings would have been further evidence. The only way to be sure would be to swap the modem for one that is properly g.inp compatible.
