mapping internal port to external port - ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A
« on: April 28, 2015, 03:12:05 PM »

I have a Synology NAS that has a downloading app available on port 5000. I can access it fine from other networks as I set it up for external access in DSM.  The problem is port 5000 is blocked at work. Would I be able to map internal port 5000 to an external port that is open at work (e.g 8080)?

Have had a good old go at it but can't seem to get it working....not even sure the ZyXEL supports such a thing. Would be grateful for any advice, suggestions!

Well I mapped my VNC port on my 8924 (same router but with 5ghz wi-fi) with no problems at all. Just got to NAT and set it up in Port Forwarding.

Oh bugger it! What am I doing wrong then? I don't suppose you could take a screenshot of the port forwarding page please? Obviously you should blur out anything sensitive!

This translates port 8080 to port 80 on my server.

You can test it from home, the router has a loopback adapter so just enter your "WAN IP address:8080" in the browsers address bar and it should work.

Note:
If you're not on VDSL you will need to use a different WAN Interface to the one I've shown.

Yes thankfully for the sake of simplicity I also have VDSL (Eircom eFibre). I tried what you said and it is indeed working! I'm going to keep the champagne on ice until tomorrow though! :D I'll report back then with hopefully good news...thanks again!

It worked!!! I'm delighted on one hand because it's working at last but on the other hand very disappointed. I thought I tried everything myself. The only difference between your screenshot and what I tried before it worked was the absence of the WAN ip address. As soon as I tried it without that then it seemed to work. But I can't imagine why on Earth that would make a difference? Anyway all's well that ends well and thanks again for your help!

We've all been there.  :)

Glad you've got it working.
