Interleaving / FTTC vDSL stat interpretation
« on: March 17, 2015, 01:36:01 PM »

Hello! I've been lurking around here for about 4-5 months now but I finally took the plunge and made an account.

I wanted to ask some questions that I couldn't find through searching. if someone could direct me to some related reading or provide any other help, that would be great!

So recently my connection has received Interleaving. I know I can't really do anything about it but I wanted more information on the interpretation of stats (to signify what caused it and maybe some way I can mitigate it).

A bit of background from me, is that i'm a heavy broadband user (I download 3-4tb and upload 4tb a month on average).

I got FTTC installed on February 6th 2015.  So i've got about 7 weeks worth of stats from the HG612. I have attached my FULL MONTY - in the hope that someone more knowledgeable than I could take a look and maybe point at a reason for the recent interleaving addition. (Also further to this, while lurking I found threads that indicated that DLM interleaving was no longer in use. (because of some patent disputes, is that correct?) http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14867.75.html)

So here is my full monty, if anybody could provide any insight - I would love the help!

Looking at the stepped decline in DS SNRM, my gut feeling is that your connection has been affected by increased crosstalk.

The latest disturber, if it is indeed a crosstalk issue, may be sufficiently severe to cause Interleaving & delay to be now needed.

You may also see a worsening in QLN levels in your snapshot graphs.

QLN & Hlog data only update during the training stages when a connection syncs up, so those would be the relevant periods to look at.

As your DS Bitswapping levels are relatively low, I 'suspect' you may be using an older mode firmware version.
In comparison, your US bitswapping levels look relatively high
I'm not sure, but that may be due to the amount you upload & thus the heavy use of your connection.

The latest firmware version makes better use of bitwsapping, tends to allow DS FEC & is G.INP ready.

Generally speaking, you appear to have quite low error levels, so I don't suspect the speed reduction & application of interleaving is due to a line fault as such.

FWIW, Attainable rates do always appear to increase somewhat unrealistically whenever interleaving is applied.

More data;

Which firmware would I be looking at? I thought it was up to date (is it not?). I also saw that mentioned in another thread, so I re-enabled BT-Agent yesterday.

I have no noticed any speed reduction. I get (and still get with interleaving) a solid 78/19.7, near constantly. What I have noticed is the increased latency (although im not sure if thats placebo as I set up ping logging).

What options do I have now? Just hope it goes away?

The attached shows the latest Huawei bandplans, software & firmware versions.

They are available from here:-

https://mega.co.nz/#F!LdJFDIJL!e_E1twsIg2kTet8mPjrb4w

The B030SP08 folder contains the latest versions.

What you are currently using looks like the original firmware version from when Asbokid originally developed the method to unlock the HG612.

Given time & unless you have blocked remote updates, your firmware version should be updated, but using a downloaded version via the link would speed things up.
