BDUK passes 2 million premises

A further milestone in our journey to build Britain’s connected future
Today the Government funded BDUK programme has hit a further milestone passing more than 2 million homes and businesses across the country. That’s a whooping 500k premises added since November!
Culture Secretary Sajid Javid said, “This is a tremendous result that is already making a huge difference to millions of people. We want everyone in the UK to be able to enjoy the benefits of superfast broadband.”
The scale of our rollout is vast. Some 46 contracts have been won – currently 44 are in the delivery phase and 2 in the mobilisation phase, that’s big numbers when you think this time last year only 9 contracts were live.
Our rollout of BDUK goes from strength to strength thanks to all the hard work and dedication of the teams involved. This financial year alone we expect to construct around 49,000 kilometres of spine and access fibre, build 3,700 fibre nodes (PONs) and supply and connect 8,700 DSLAMs.
Around 80 per cent of the UK already has access to superfast speeds, and the rollout is currently reaching an additional 40,000 homes and businesses every week.
The UK already leads the EU “big five” nations when it comes to superfast access and take-up and our involvement, in partnership with the Government on this programme, will ensure it stays ahead.
This is a great British success story and one we are very proud to be part of as we help build a superfast nation.
