Odd DLM event ?
« on: March 16, 2015, 08:44:13 PM »

My stats are on the MDWS user Tom34 The stats just don't look right to me,some of the spare snr on both ds/us appears to be missing but attainable is around the same, this is after what appears to be dlm event  the second one in the past 13days which has added yet another 7-8ms of latency and reduced my ds sync and IP profile further  by around 2mbps ,
I can see no reason as to why DLM has borked my connection further  there has been Zero disconnects since i last powered on the modem several months ago,As for other stuff like errors  i can't say because i have been using the ECI modem, because it seems to give better performance on my cicuit,  since i swapped the modem back to the hg612 to monitor things  it's been error free ,
My thoughts are due to the odd time  1pm that DLM has acted ,and its been some 13days since it last acted , thoughts anyone

If there have been zero disconnects, then DLM is more likely to have been tickled by errors on the line - which is considerably less visible, unless you are watching a video stream at the time, or measuring download performance.

The job of DLM is to tune settings in order to get rid of errors - so checking the level of errors now, after DLM has happened, is a harder job. Looking at the CRC count or the EScount (on MDWS) shows very little activity there.

However, you are definitely seeing FEC (error corrections) happen, with some regularity. Upstream seems to get frequent spikes of around 670 corrections, while downstream saw a larger spike earlier today. There's definitely *something* happening on the line - both upstream and downstream.

The fec has always given errors  but arent the upstream fec/errors  down to the remote side of things?

The upstream FEC counters are incremented at the DSLAM, as it detects (and fixes) errors in the bitstream sent from your modem. Your modem is sent a copy of the counters, so you can see them.

In those older line stats, you can see that upstream FEC is active, without interleaving, and without DLM intervention on the upstream. This combination seems to be relatively common - and happens without any particular amount of errors having been present; my line is currently configured this way without ever having bothered DLM.

But you are right that the old stats don't seem to be showing many FEC, CRC or ES events upstream. Not a lot of sign of anything!

However, your newer line stats have certainly triggered DLM in the upstream direction - but there is little indication of what.

Anyway, as you post elsewhere, G.INP has activated, so not much point looking in details now.
