There we go

Quote
will create the largest UK mobile company at some 32 million customers.

That will make some people happy that EE are no longer the largest operator.   ::)

Quote
This move will reduce the number of mobile network operators to three, i.e. Vodafone, Three and EE.

Same thing is happening with DSL.  I find it ironic that all of OFCOM (prev OFTEL) talk about opening up the market for competition means that we now have far less choice than what we did 10 years ago.  ???

if this merger follows the same path as the t-mobile/orange merger did technically (i.e combining the two networks) then that would be a huge bonus for 3 users, and would make 3 a viable network. Currently 3's major flaw is they have no gsm coverage at all, so if you're outside of a 3g area on 3, you have no phone.

I'm just hoping this doesn't effect MVNO's in a serious way, such as giffgaff or Andrews & Arnold (SIM2SIM).

I’m confused.  If Sky are buying access to Telefónica UK’s network what are Three buying, just the customers/shops?  Part of the network?

I would guess 3 are buying the network in its entirety, sky are basically becoming an MVNO.

Still confused.  In that case shouldn't Sky be dealing with Three if they will own the network?  Sorry if I'm missing something.

Edit: spelling

Presumably Sky are dealing with the owner of the network. If Three subsequently buy it, then they'll take ownership of all the contracts that the previous owner signed, including the one with Sky - though there might be get-out clauses.

But until Three buy it, they aren't the people to deal with.
