Errors, how low is low?
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:13:35 AM »

On my old ADSL connection I used to regularly measure errors in the hundreds of thousands if not millions on a daily basis, I was quiet a long way from the exchange. Now on VDSL I am down to errors in the thousands, I'm still quiet a way from the cabinet but I am curious to know what level of errors is considered good?

There's no simple answer to that. It depends on what sort of errors you're talking about - I'm guessing from the figures you mention that these are FECs, which aren't in themselves a problem although high levels can be an indicator of some underlying problem. CRCs are 'real' errors and their values matter - high values can significantly affect throughput and stability. Errored seconds (ES) seem to be the important figures for DLM.
