The Government funded BDUK programme has achieved another milestone passing more than 1.5 million homes and premises. If that wasn’t impressive enough, 500K of these premises have been added since August this year.
Culture Secretary Sajid Javid said: “I’m delighted the project has now reached more than 1.5 million homes and businesses, giving people much faster and reliable connections. We know how important superfast broadband is to everyone.”
Within Openreach, our rollout of the fibre infrastructure has made, and will continue to make, huge social and economic benefits to homes and small businesses in hard-to-reach rural areas. If we combine both the BDUK and commercial rollout, our network now passes more than 21million homes and businesses.
We should be very proud of our fibre rollout programme. It’s a great example of successful partnership between the private sector, local and national government.
Although we started later, our overall coverage is now above most European countries. It’s expected that by the end of 2018, thanks to the BDUK programme, 95% of UK premises will have access to superfast broadband.
