Fish Tank led lights effecting ethernet power line adapters
« on: November 04, 2014, 10:22:47 PM »

This is an odd issue that I have witnessed 1st hand a good mate of mine uses ethernet power line adapters for his Desktop PC, visited him to-day and the first thing he says my broadband is not working its working fine on the wi-fi laptops so my attention is fixed on the desktop PC using power line adapters the network is showing 100 mega bits per second but no access to the internet.

I ask him have you made any changes around the house he said I got Fish Tank led lights, so ask him to turn them off and straight away the desktop could access the internet, told him to turn them on again but no access to internet.

I am just putting this odd case into the Kitz forum incase others come across the same problem.

How strange ???

I only PM'd one of our members yesterday, (who is certain they too are suffering from REIN) giving an insight into common-REIN culprits.
As part of the PM, I also explained how pretty much anything electrical can cause issues, going on to say how just a few eeks ago I sourced a problem to a fish-tank light.  :)

I'll pick you up at 0800, NS. Bring a coat, it's cold out there.  ;) ;D ;D

AOUI powerline adapters  are  adaptive in the face of interference, so it must be powerful and broadband.
Doesn't it clobber the xDSL directly ?

Cheers BS so this a common issue with fish-tank lights his go's all different colours it's nice to look at, ask him if he wanted to go back to wi-fi or stop using the fish-tank leds answer NO WAY and has purchased and received a 300 meter CATe ethernet cable it's gonna look messy as the Master Socket and HG612 + HH3 are upstairs in a bedroom and the Desktop is downstairs.

There has to be a better solution out there for him  :-\

Edit 30 meter CAT5e ethernet cable

Sorry, I may not have worded it as perhaps I wanted it to come across ?

The fish-tank scenario was a one-off for me personally, so not a common-culprit IMO.  :)

Just one more case, and there'll be an uprising .......... 'DSL users against fish' . The powers that be will probably skate over it though ??

Perhaps put an electric eel into the tank? Then lights won't need connecting to the mains supply.  ;D

Let there be light and there was light in the fish-tank and there was internet using powerline adapters.

my good old mate purchased another led fish-tank tube and all is well it's a different brand so that's the case closed  :)  the dodgy one was transfered to another friend and is being used on the back of his PC monitor for effect  ???

Was it a fluorescent light being used in there?

Fluorescent lights & their electronic ballasts are a known source of REIN
