WiFi And a Huawei HG622
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:18:26 AM »

The current CPE of choice, here in The Cattery, is a Huawei HG622.

So far, LAN-side, I have only used three out of the four Ethernet ports. Quite recently I decided to try the wireless connection. After a slow, methodical configuration of the wireless interface of the HG622 and of my laptop computer I attempted to activate a wireless connection. The end result . . . failure.  :(

The laptop computer sees the signal without any problem. It appears that the failure arises during the attempt to authenticate a secure connection. Attached below is a screen-scrape of the configuration page. I have tried TKIP, AES and TKIP+AES encryption. All were failures. As there is no obvious means to configure the HG622's wireless interface without encryption, I am at a loss as to what to try next.  ???

Hence this request to any fellow Kitizen who also owns a HG622. Have you been able to successfully configure a wireless connection?

This isn't going to be any help, I'm afraid. I have an HG622 and I use it occasionally, but I have little need of WiFi, and although I set it up for WiFi in the same way as your screenshot, I probably didn't actually test the WiFi. I'll see if I can get any more information.

I have used the wi-fi on my HG622 but do not now use it as I found it to be particularly flaky in use with poor range and my phone would not keep a reliable connection even 3 feet away! I dont remember having any auth problems with it though. I will try to test it again and confirm how I set it up.

Stuart

Just checked the page and I had it set to b/g/n as at the time not all my wi-fi devices were n capable. I also had one channel selected. I will try to test later.

Hello,

I've played with a HG622 a while back (setting one up for someone).
I did notice at the time that the only encryption settings available were WPA2-PSK (i.e. the drop down combo box didn't work). Of course even this didn't work...

It took a full reset to allow further choices to be made..

I set it up without any encryption in order to test the functionality and range.
Encryption was enabled after this.

What firmware version are you running?

I gave up using the Hg622 wifi. When they were first available from asbo most had wireless issues but some were very happy.  I guess adapters vary.
I have a number of devices, one worked quite well with it but the others either struggled to make a connection or dropped connection after a while.

Some times it seems to help if you delete the wifi profile in what ever software your using on the computer and re-find it from scratch.  I think this is because if you change the security some times the old setting stick and cause a problem.

Hello,

I've just had a dig in my archives..

I've got these, if they are of any use to you.

HG622V100R001C33B019SP05_upgrade_main.bin (Oct 2012)

HG622V100R001C33B021_upgrade_main.bin (Sep 2011)

At least one of these is a Jaztel firmware.

All -- Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.

The firmware version installed is that which was present when I received the HG622 from Asbokid. I seem to recall it is the Jazztel version.

Code: [Select]
# xdslcmd --version
xdslcmd version 1.0
ADSL PHY: AnnexA version - A2pv6C033f.d23d
# xdslcmd info --vendor
xdslcmd: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason: 0
Max: Upstream rate = 1016 Kbps, Downstream rate = 6224 Kbps
Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 1007 Kbps, Downstream rate = 5518 Kbps

ChipSet Vendor Id: IFTN:0x71c6
ChipSet VersionNumber: 0x71c6
ChipSet SerialNumber:
#

A screenscrape of the Device Information page is attached, below.

The drop-down option for the Security box only offers a choice from WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. There is no "None" option.  :-\

Hello,

That's weird... I distinctly remember that there was a "none" option..
I didn't unlock this one, and I don't know the history of the router or the firmware actually installed.

I remember that I downloaded various firmwares in a "just in case" scenario.

I **did** have other versions, but I cannot find them at the minute.
(I'm currently searching just under 6TB of archives.. If it's there, I'll find it!)

Hello,

I've just found this: (Google auto translation from the Czech. user guide.
from the wireless security section.)

"Security (Security): Used to determine the safety parameters of the SSID.
Modem supports open system (open system), authentication schemes such as WEP, WPA
PSK and WPA2-PSK, including appropriate encryption mode."

Appears to be possible. I assume that the stock UK firmware is slightly crippled here.

I have discovered that if I set the wireless security mode to WEP, then there is a "WEP encryption" option which can be set as disabled. Needless to say . . . no success.

Like Eric I very rarely use wireless at home but I was interested to see how useful the wireless subsystem is with the HG622.
