High OHF, throughput issues?
« on: November 05, 2014, 05:44:44 PM »

I have been having some major speed issues of late, line dropping once a week and I am wondering if high OHF is an indication of a line problem?

The thing is, I am on an Origin Broadband connection which seems to not be subject to BT DLM so if my line quality has deteriorated its likely to manifest like this.  But how many errors are too many?  I also find it odd that it wouldn't manifest with a lower SNR.

My line stats are showing as:

I don't think we're really sure what OHF is, but it's suggested that it refers to frame overheads (checksum bytes) which are used for error correction in a similar way to FEC. It seems very likely that the number which matters is OHFErr, the number of frames out of that large total which required retransmission because of errors.

Indeed I'm still not convinced its a line problem, I think Origin have some issue with the backhaul from my exchange, but I thought I should at least check what the more knowledgeable people on here thought as my speed seems to be worse day by day and now I am having it lose sync more often.
