Re: Openreach Modem HG612 v Billion 8800NL 24 Hours Errors
« Reply #1 on: October 12, 2014, 02:21:07 PM »

one reason i want to use either the zyxel or billion is extra lan ports.  The spare pc in same room as the router and modem I have had to use the BT AC dongle for connectivity as all the lan ports in that room were full, but now with one of those 2 devices I will have more spare lan ports.

currently 432 ES for 32 hours uptime vs 800 a day for the zyxel.
Also so far none of the weird US snrm dips I had.

I will point out tho I am back on the MK1, I wonder now if the MK3 caused those dips.

@adslmax Thanks for the 24 hour stats which do suggest errors are a bit higher with the 8800NL.  Your line is however so good that with either device the error rates are totally insignificant and with such low errors counts the differences could be a fluke.  I would just use which ever is most convenient to use.

@Chrysalis The Mark 3 really should have no odd impacts on your upstream.   The common mode filter in the Mark 3 will  have had the benefit of removing some common mode but will also have attenuated the highest frequency tones enough to slightly lower the sync speed or SNRM if your capped.  In my case the Mark 1 seemed better as the errors did not increase and there was possibly a slight error reduction in errors when capped.  When capped the benefit of little extra SNRM may have had more benefit than the failure to remove common mode.

@adslmax Thanks for the 24 hour stats which do suggest errors are a bit higher with the 8800NL.

The first six hours was zero errors! Then after 7pm till overnight there is more errors! But, I hope DLM will not bother about it for the time being. I am happy with Billion 8800NL. As I prefer all in one VDSL2 Modem as I don't use wifi except my android phone & apple tv but my daughter will use it for Smart TV (Netflix), Ipad, Samsung Tablet & Iphone. I only use 1 gigabit lan port for my pc desktop in my room from Billion Router.

Notice: Just to add that my socket are MK2 fitted by a proper Openreach Engineer back in February 2014 by the Master Socket. (He replaced the whole new master socket with the grey thick cable behind the back plate cutting it off and make it short.
