ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A firmware issues
« on: October 02, 2014, 10:46:45 AM »

issues so far on shipped fw.

If I do the quick start setting timezone, I keep getting prompted again to do quick start, even if I tick to not bring it up.

The network page if I click edit next to vdsl nothing happens.

Currently flashing newer firmware to see if resolves issues.

ok works in firefox but not in IE11

I am connected at 74mbps with so far no ES

I was at 73 but attainable had dropped to 72 prior to switching so we can assume a 2mbit gain.

I selected zyxel in the modem stats gui but its failing to fetch stats.

seems a bit of a dud.

routing keeps cutting out e.g. the tbb speedtest will run for 1-3 seconds and then just stops dead.

I suggest you update to the latest firmware before complaining. There's is a thread on here with newer versions than what's available on ZyXels website.

With regards to the stats did you change the password, and make sure the IP address is correct?  HG612 stats seems to hang if you have a wrong password.

I was on the latest, I just downgraded again to the one that shipped with the device and still same issue.

wow this thing is buggy.

V100AAKL6b1.bin is the latest right?

Remember I am using in bridge mode not routing so the bug may be bridge mode specific.

regarding the gui yes right password is entered.  IT did start working no idea how, and its not working again, but thats a mute issue at the moment as this is currently unuseable.

I thought I fixed it after disabling QoS (was turning all features off since I just want it as modem) but problem still exists. :(

incidently the stats have started working in the gui again now randomly.

seems continuous loss as well on pings.

check my graph.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/f18259bf3f0c6df009a6b13e06de2ddd.html

it isnt due to dsl errors as they low enough so something the device is not handling right.

shame about my experience, I will try to report what happened to zyxel and if they provide a fix will test it, the dsl driver looks a definite improvement tho, so hopefully if my billion ever arrives that will be better.

Normal browsing was an issue as well I had to keep refreshing pages on here, submitting posts multiple times etc.

Of course its possible it may be an issue with the asus router I am using but that does work fine with the hg612.

Apart from the very higher error rate that the VMG8324-B10A had on my line, more about 10 times the es, crc and ses rate of a HG612. I also had a series of issues with it. One was BQM results which were like the "good" bits of your example.  Always 30% packet loss.  Same with ping test.   Others were settings not saving though a reboot and gui pages that kept getting stuck. Lastly any sync speed gain it had was lost as it consistently gave slower speed tests than the HG612 - Dlink DIR 655.  I assumed it was probably faulty and sent it back.  Since then I have wondered if it was just my line and dreadful buggy firmware.

By contrast the Billion 8800NL was boring bliss it simply worked and the crc and ses rates with the shipped firmware were no more than the HG612 even though the errored sec rate was about 50% higher.  The new firmware for the Billion is just an update of the dsl driver to same one as the ZyXel had.  That upgrade does not increase my es errors at all, but it does increase my crc and ses rates. To me it looks like the higher sync of the 039 dsl driver can comes with a penalty if your line has the type of noise that is on my line.  For me the penalty is a lot less with Billion and with the original 038 dsl driver firmware there is no real penalty.

after putting the hg612 back in I actually think the zyxel managed a higher sync whilst having lower error counts.  ES are comparable but the hg612 within 2 minutes had one ES with a 100 or so CRC count, but I can confirm after putting it back in the issues are gone with packetloss etc.

Email sent to zyxel 30 minutes ago with my bug report.

The 2nd sync on the zyxel was slightly lower than the first but still 74mbit and was 74 also attainable but before I disconnected it the attainable jumped to 76 giving me hope the hg612 would get its previous sync back.

The hg612 has reconnected at 72 (was 73 earlier but as I reported its attainable had dropped to 72).

So I have no issues with the dsl side, just the bridge mode seems to have some serious issues.

going to test something else, I wonder if there was a duplex issue between the 2 lan devices?

Will stick the zyxel between me and the asus and see if it works ok.

nope, that worked fine, so I guess its an issue with the bridge mode.

les what command checks the dsl driver version?

On the XyXel "adsl info --version" should give it.  If your running HG612 stats or dslstats they should also show it.  Glad your making some progress, I never cracked the packet loss problem.

so you had the same issue but just assumed it was due to errors until you read my post?
