...It raises questions about how zyxel handle passwords but you know this already. Does it apply to all zyxels or just this one. All I suspect.

The exploit is available in every VMG8324-B10a firmware I have tested, including those issued by Eircom and ZyXel. I do not have any other ZyXel devices.

I was just wondering whether this is still an issue/an issue to worry about?

I purchased a VMG8324, and have been pondering a couple of points:

Does the Internet (globe) light ever stop blinking? The thing hasn't paused for a breath for the past three days, even with no ethernet cables connected and the Wi-Fi switched off.

How do I make the router play nicely with thinkbroadband's BQM? The manual seems to suggest that the ping response is controlled via a setting in Security > DoS, but the option appears to be missing (using 11C firmware).

I can't remember for certain, try enabling ICMP on the Maintenance/Remote Management tab. I also had to ask on here, so the answer is somewhere.

Hi

If you enable the ping on the WAN in the area Aruba has said, then it will accept pings from BQM all okay, the settings were changed on this firmware version.

The globe never stops flashing, it's too sensitive, it's reacting to all the "background noise"  arriving from the Internet, rather than intelligently only flashing for traffic passing between the Internet and the Local network, which would be more appropriate.

At least you can turn the LEDs off.

Regards

Thank you for the reassurance about the over-active Internet light - I was starting to think that I was under constant attack.  :)

I’m feeling a bit daft on the ICMP front though as I can’t find the Remote Management option in the Maintenance section.

The available options I have are:

SNMP
Time
Email Notification
Log Setting
Firmware Upgrade
Configuration
Reboot
Diagnostic
>Ping/Traceroute/NSLookup
>802.1ag
>OAM Ping

I would also expect to see an option to change the admin password, but that’s hiding somewhere too.

Im using an older firmware version so not sure if it will still be in the same places.

For Password
Maintenance > User Account.  Click on the pencil icon to call up the screen to modify admin settings.

For ICMP Ping...  I cant find it now either.
Im thought it was under Maintenance > Remote Management > ICMP

Yet all I can see is

HTTPS
HTTP
TELNET
FTP
SSH

I'll continue to look around, but Im sure I found it easy enough last time :(

On my 8924 (same router but with 5ghz wi-fi) it is in Maintenance. One question what user are you logging in as? I always use Admin, dont know if it matters - just a thought.

Thanks for that Stuart. I've currently only got the Admin account set up, so have been using that to log in.

Well I dont understand that. If I get a chance I'll dig out my 8324 and put 11C0 on it and see what I find. However I do find it strange that you cannot see it. I would have thought the gui should be more or less identical in this area.

Stuart
Just one more thought, could you post a picture of the main router page which shows the installed f/w? Just to check.....
