In my shed I have a Raspberry Pi that does various functions, including being a media server, so it's on all the time. While I'm actually in the shed, I also listen to internet radio stations through it, using mplayer and a simple script that keeps a list of urls to stations I like.
(The Raspberry Pi is connected to this amplifier, from Ebay via China, that sounds incredibly good for the money

As well as the usual BBC Radio stations, I've collected a few other stations that are interesting to me, and thought I'd share them here.
Resonance FM - London based community arts station. Sometimes interesting, sometimes a bit dull.
http://radio.canstream.co.uk:8004/live.mp3.m3uChill - ambient, very mellow music that's quite nice to have tinkling away in the background sometime. I remember this was on DAB in my area a few years ago, I listened to it while insulating the attic!
http://media-ice.musicradio.com/ChillMP3.m3uFalklands Radio. I have this just for curiosity value, because it's a reminder of quite how amazing the internet is, to be ale to listen to a radio station from such a small island such a long away away.
http://s1.viastreaming.net/8645/listen.m3uMedievalMusic - Because I quite like medieval music!
http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=23055Radio Dismuke - plays 1920's - 1940's music, American, mostly big band. Very atmospheric sound quality, makes me want to make a special Raspberry Pi radio in an old radio case through an original speaker just to listen to this. Very pipe and slippers music, very sheddy
http://early1900s.org/radiodismuke/radiodismuke.plsSteampunk Radio. This is my new finding today. I like the Steampunk aesthetic, an alternate past or future where the technology of today sort-of exists, but in a Victorian style - meaning it's all steam, gears, airships and Gentlemanly Conduct.
http://steampunk.radioriel.org/listen.plsIf these links just download a small file, try opening the file and see if a player opens to start playing the station. otherwise, copy and paste the link into your favourite media player and see if it'll open. Media Player classic on Windows does it well, on my Raspberry Pi running Raspbian I use the command mplayer -ao sdl -nolirc -playlist <url>
Does anyone have any favourite but less-well-known/esoteric stations they might like to share?
