Medion moved into the Mobile Market
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:01:28 PM »

Medion appears to have moved into the mobile device market and Aldi are selling 3 of their devices on Thurs 5/8/2104

Medion usually arent bad on specs and are normally very competitive when it comes to pricing..  so someone who cant afford ipads or Samsungs may be interested in the following:

Smartphone MEDION® LIFE® E4001 -  £79.99
7" Tablet PC MEDION® LIFETAB® E7318  - £79.99
7" Kids' Tablet PC MEDION® Junior Tab S7316  - £79.99

I saw that and thought it a bit of a bargain, but, as Android Central points out here
http://www.androidcentral.com/aldis-android-phone-tough-sell-even-80 it's running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ie old) and for £10 more you can get a higher spec Moto E running latest Android 4.4 KitKat (ie here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Moto-4GB-Sim-Free-Smartphone/dp/B00KB0YD8Y/?tag=androcentr-21&m1k=d_ac )

However you look at it though, the prices of pretty decent spec smartphones are coming down rather rapidly!

I hadnt checked the current market prices, they just seemed a good deal to me.

my experience is that medion products can be a bit of a lottery. Some are good, some are awful, and sometimes even two items of the same model can have completely different levels of reliability.

I guess Ive been quite lucky with medion in that Ive bought a few of their PCs, because the spec was cheaper than I could purchase parts and build myself for.   There were a few of us on here at the time who just couldnt self build for the price of their whole package. PDA's and sat navs have also in the past been good.

However Ive had one of their TVs that went straight back..  and their keyboard/mouse combo's arent up to much.
At least Ive found that Aldi are quite happy to give you a full refund if not happy.

I've had a mixed experience with Lidl/Aldi cheap electricals.

Medion Car Stereo for £40 - sound quality pretty good, but the RDS refuses to retune for traffic announcements on other stations, it likes to tune to a distorted frequency for Radio 4 instead of a better one, and switching from Radio 4 to local radio can leave you listening to static for several minutes while it thinks about what to do.

Silvercrest Wireless Mouse cost me £3 from a Lidl sale.  Works well enough, but is heavy and not very ergonomically designed.

Lidl LED rechargeable inspection lamp.  Is about a foot long, has LEDs along it, charges from mains transformer or car adaptor.  Amazing.  Very bright, runs for many hours on one charge.  Excellent for attics/dark sheds/car breakdowns/poking around inside a PC under a desk. Was around £8 I think.

I've tried various Lidl rechargable batteries over the years, they're a good price (£3 for 4xAA 2500mAh) but they don't seem to last for very many recharge cycles before failing to charge or losing their charge very quickly.

Sorry, wandered off your original topic there Kitz  :-[

I wouldnt buy a 4.0 device, unless I was confident of been able to somehow get at least kitkat on there.

Chrys - it was some sort of preparatory spam post that Ive now removed - this was an old thread.

There appears to be some sort of new spamming technique which has just started doing the rounds.   First of all it replicates part of a previous post
Although they don't post spam at the time, I suspect the intention is that they will come back in a few days time to edit it and/or add spam links in their sig hoping that no-one then notice the spam.
