Lightning / clouds.

Say if you had clouds at the top of some hills touching the ground, could lightning still happen ?.  :hmm:

I have a set of 6 fixed IP's From  Eclipse  isp.BT ADSL2(G992.3) line>HG612 as a Modem, Bridge, WAN Not Bound to LAN1 or 2 + Also have FTTP (G.984) No One isp Fixed IP >Dual WAN pfSense (Hardware Firewall and routing).> Two WAN's, Ethernet LAN, DMZ LAN, Zyxel GS1100-24 Switch.

I havent looked it up, but my first thoughts are that it would be possible from other clouds.

The vast majority of lightning never hits the ground so yes its quite possible.

There are 3 types of lightning discharges

1. Cloud-to-Ground Lightning

2. Ground-to-Cloud Lightning

3. Intracloud Lightning

the most common type in the UK is type 3 (IC), so if you have clouds at the top of some hills touching the ground your are more likely to get the type 1 (CG)
