I know this is the wrong place for this the reason may become clear.

Somehow my desk top is too big for the monitor screen and I cannot access the left hand side of it where my icons are, I've tried dragging it inwards but cannot, I'm using windows 8.1 and not yet sure sure if I can do a restore on 8.1, any help would be appreciated, meanwhile I shall continue to search for an answer.

Regards,

Peter

Can you move/re size the screen in hardware to get at the icons ?

You may be able to adjust the size/position using the monitor controls.
